The Fashion Commanders
We love, yes that’s right, we love the following Fashion Commanders, and looking at them do we have to say why?! I thinks not. Their style speaks for itself! Bold and courageous, these fashion commanders, who define themselves on their own terms, are undeniably influencing and shaping mainstream fashion trends, and are redefining notions of black beauty and style. Far from just a pretty face, our five commanders are grafters too! There is no question that these five are at the top of their game…
If like us, you love nothing more, than to trawl through copious images of your favourite gals and guys, then you’re in for a serious treat. Here are our top fashion commanders:
Shala Monroque

WTF? She is awesome! Editor of Pop magazine, Shala Monroque arguably one of the most influential black women in fashion. Her faultless individual style, stunning beauty and intelligence sets her apart. An avid art enthusiast, St Lucian born Monroque has a world vision that knows no limit.
Oroma Elewa
Come see black beauty ooo, as we say in Nigeria. As founder and Editor of Pop’Africana, the semi-annual fashion and art magazine, Nigerian-born Oroma offers a global perspective of Africa that challenges redundant old narratives. Pop Africana shines a bright light on African beauty, culture, customs and ideals in a glossy modern and fresh way. A pioneering visionary creative, who is beyond simple definitions, Oroma’s playful yet masterful command of fashion is captivating everyone’s attention.
Genevieve Jones

A New-York socialite cum jewellery and accessories designer, Jones has been likened to the original style commander – Holly Golightly and you only have to see her to understand why. A New-Orleans native, who says she always had a love of fashion, Jones has transcended her working-class roots to becoming a style icon with a burgeoning fashion brand.
Solange Knowles

No longer just Beyonce’s sister – 25-year-old single mother Solange Knowles is on her own stellar path as a talented singer-songwriter, DJ, entrepreneur, model and a style icon in the making. Since shaving off all her hair in 2010, Knowles has come into her own. Cultivating her individual edgy eclectic and fun look. This year she became an Ambassador of Carol’s Daughter, and she joins the likes of Kate Moss and Sophie Ellis-Bexter as the face of Rimmel London.
