WATCH: Lauryn Hill Is The Truth Part 1
I was thrilled to stumble upon this video on YouTube of the phenomenal Lauryn Hill speaking to senior year students at a High School in the USA.
I have abundant respect for Lauryn Hill and I’ve always taken a keen interest in her music and life, so I was surprised that I had not seen the video before. Better late than never.

Dang Lauryn, preach! Can you believe she was only 25-years-old?
Want to hear more then watch the second part of Hill’s talk after the jump.
Here is the second part of her talk, and it gets better, that’s if you’re into unscripted, dialectic conversations. If you’re not then you may find yourself calling Hill’s sanity into question.
I love that Hill celebrates her love of God and that through her music she ministers to enlighten and resist the systems of domination within society. This telling is vital and wanted. Over a decade later, Hill’s critical consciousness and her impact is as relevant today as it was when she first released her acclaimed debut solo album, Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in 1998, which was a critical and commercial success and is without question one of the greatest albums of all time.
Hill displays the same poignant wisdom and raw honesty that set her music apart. Her sharp analysis of social conditions and the hip hop industry specifically, are all still relevant today. Openly revealing herself and being self-deprecating to unveil her imperfections, Hill articulately questions (in a language that her audience can relate to) and deciphers so-called universal truths.
An exceptionally gifted artist and a true individual, Hill was (and sill is) unwilling to relinquish her freedom for fame, public adulation, and wealth. That’s why I find it hilarious when people say she was egotistical. Can you really imagine Lauryn Hill in a industry where Kim Kardashian and Kanye’s rumoured relationship (yawn) is promoted as significant and news worthy? I thinks not. Knowing this Hill proheticallly walked away from the music industry at the height of her sucesss.
Her remarkable voice, intellectual prowess, courageneous to seek and speak unpopular truths is why she continues to be highly revered and ridiculed.
